A leading manufacturer of coffee machines for OCS (Office Coffee Systems), vending, catering and HORECA, required an NSF and FDA approved water regulator to ensure their coffee machines are compliant with future legislation regarding levels of lead in water. Prolonged exposure or ingestion of lead above approved levels can cause serious damage to a person's health.
In professional coffee machines a water regulator is used to set the correct water inlet pressure for machines with an espresso option. When the water pressure is not correct, the pump will boost the pressure to an incorrect level causing poor quality coffee and lead to spillage.
Norgren engineered a customised regulator designed for use in potable water systems. All components that make contact with the water are fully approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in potable water systems, and are therefore fully compliant with current and future legislation.
The application specific regulator represented an extension of an existing product technology and fully met the legislation requirements of the customer. This new development enabled the customer to focus on its core competencies, reducing its development time and launch to market.
The Norgren solution eliminates the risk of liability directly caused by lead contamination of potable water.
