Challenge:

A manufacturer of post-press finishing equipment needed help increasing workflow efficiency for an application used in their commercial printers. The OEM was using a Bimba Extruded Flat Cylinder with external guiding to clamp printed stock for trimming and binding in a rotary machine. The manufacturer added a modified tooling plate to the cylinder and attempted to integrate it with a mechanical switch and valve, in hopes to improve efficiency.

Challenge:

A laminating company needed to develop an automated glue dispensing system that would glue an 8 ft long corrugated piece of plastic onto a flat, smooth piece of plastic. This required 48 dabs of glue, or 1 dab every 2 inches across, to be applied uniformly and simultaneously. With the plastic sheet being fed continuously, the glue would be dispensed automatically after every 2 inches of feed. After rejecting a costly robotic solution, they decided to look for something more cost efficient.

A customer desired an all-composite cylinder for their semiconductor application that could withstand the harsh environment of hydrochloric acid fumes used for surface cleaning. This required both the cylinder rod and body to be made of, or coated in, plastic.

Antennas are critical to ensure optimal radio frequency coverage. For a connected functional network they need to work over a wide range of terrains and in many different environments. One of the main environmental challenges is moisture accumulation from fluctuations in temperature and pressure. Moisture accumulation generally occurs at the top of a tower and can lead to signal interference or even complete failure of the link.

A manufacturer of automotive lift devices contacted Pneumadyne to re-design a component used in their pneumatic circuit. Their previous valve consisted of four plastic components which were prone to breaking in the device. Although simple in design, the valve had to control the amount of flow allowed into the lift in order to control the speed of the lift.

Challenge:

A manufacturer of biological and medical laboratory test equipment has historically used a small Bimba Flat Square II cylinder in their compact analyzer for clinical diagnostics. The cylinder moves a needle vertically to prepare samples on a small plate that is about the size of an index card, and holds approximately 100 samples. After one sample cycle is complete, the plate indexes to the next location until all samples are prepared. When the testing needed to increase the number of samples to over 300 with the same size plate, greater precision in a smaller foot print was needed.

Challenge:

A Mettler Toledo IND560 weighing terminal which was used in a cleanroom Class GMP B needed to be equipped with a pinch valve to automate a glass bottle filling process. Due to the environment, a solenoid operated pinch valve in stainless steel was required. The pinch valve had to communicate with the weighing terminal and close when the pre-defined set point was reached. The weighing terminal didn’t provide enough Amps to power the pinch valve, so an independent power supply was installed as well.
